How to Avoid Rogues in the Roofing Industry
24/03/2016Television programmes like the BBC’s Rogue Traders have made people more alert to the problem of building industry cowboys, but some builders are still out to con you. This recent news story about a couple in Clitheroe who paid a roofer nearly £8000 despite being originally quoted less than a thousand makes that all too clear. Becoming suspicious of his increasing demands for more cash, they called in surveyors who revealed that instead of replacing the tiles, he had merely turned the original tiles upside down. The roofer was taken to court and jailed for fraud.
Always Check the Accreditations
The surest way to avoid being conned is to check that the builder you employ has officially recognised accreditations. Before you employ someone to work in or on your home, make sure that they are affiliated with some independent bodies related to their industry.
Our Accreditations
We are proud to be affiliated with:
- The Confederation of Roofing Contractors
- The National Federation of Roofing Contractors
- Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme
- FairTrades and TrustMark
- Norfolk Trusted Trader
- Constructionline
You can read about all these organisations, and how they can protect you from the cowboys, on the accreditations page of our website.
