Choosing The Right Roofing Contractor This Autumn
21/07/2015
With autumn just over two months away, many of you will be looking to complete those roofing repairs whilst the sun is still shining. For obvious reasons, the summer months are always the best time to complete any work to your roof and if you haven't already checked the condition of your roof, now might be the time to do so.
If you do not feel comfortable climbing up onto your roof, or if you have identified a problem which may require professional help to resolve, it always pays to get in touch with a qualified roofing company to carry it out for you. When choosing your roofing contractor it pays to check them out thoroughly before allowing them to begin work. To ensure you employ a reputable roofing contractor, The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) advises:
- That you select up to three roofing contractors to come and look at your roof. Where possible seek recommendations from friends, family, neighbours or a reputable trade association.
- That you ask each contractor to offer advice on the types of materials they would suggest using to resolve the problem.
- That you invite each contractor to offer a quote, but do not automatically opt for the cheapest one. Your decision should be based on the quality of the advice offered and your confidence in the contractor.
- That you always seek a guarantee on new or refurbishment work.
- That you request any quotes or estimates given to you in writing.
- That you agree to payment terms in advance of work beginning. Be wary of any deal that involves full payment up front, as contractors who offer you cash/VAT-free deals are difficult to track down if things go wrong.
