Why Choose Glass Reinforced Plastic for your flat roof?
15/10/2015- Robust
- Durable
- Waterproof
We are often asked, ‘What exactly is GRP?’ Commonly known as ‘fibreglass’, GRP is composed of plastic that has been reinforced by glass fibres. The thin glass fibres are woven into a flexible ‘mat’ that can be shaped inside a mould. Liquid thermosetting plastics are then injected alongside a catalyst to speed up the setting of the plastic. The resultant material can be sanded to a smooth finish and weighs significantly less than metal or wood, allowing for easier transport and a faster installation.
GRP is a modern robust building material. This makes it ideal if you want a roof that is strong enough to support furniture for a terrace or planters for a rooftop garden as well as the weight of the people who will be walking on it. However, unless a roof has been specially prepared as a terrace or balcony, you should always avoid walking on it.
It is a truism in roofing that a roof is only as good as the roofer who installs it. At RG Leverett, all of our roofers have passed the comprehensive tests from the market-leading suppliers of GRP flat roofing such as Topseal and Polyroof. These courses cover every aspect of product knowledge, installation and customer service, so you can be certain that any GRP flat roof installed by us will meet the high standards expected by its manufacturers.
