The Importance of Cleaning out Your Guttering

06/08/2015
Guttering or 'roofline' is a very important part of your roofing system and if it's neglected, it can cause your problems. We take you through why you shouldn't neglect your guttering and the importance it holds. Clogged Guttering If you think your guttering is clogged with plant life such as, twigs, leaves and moss it can cause your roofline to overflow with water, potentially damaging all different areas of your roofing system. Neglecting your guttering can be a costly mistake too resulting in the following problems:
  • Leaking gutters: The last thing you want is rain entering your home, but by not cleaning out your guttering properly this may happen. Blocked guttering stops water flowing freely, making it very difficult for the water to drain. This can then lead to cracks in your guttering or even water making its way under your roofing and leaking into your home.
  • Nasty mould: A leak can cause mould to appear which is very unpleasant and if left for too long can make your home an undesirable place to relax in. This can be prevented by ensuring you clean out your gutters at least once a year.
  • Deterioration of your guttering: If your guttering has never been cleaned out or inspected before, in some circumstances it can lead to the erosion of your guttering, causing potential problems for your whole roofline system.
When's The Best Time to Clean It? We suggest the autumn months are the perfect time to clean out your guttering and keep them nice and clear. Depending on your preferences, cleaning them twice a year will ensure you guttering is free from debris more often, minimising any roofing issues.
