Skylight and Sun Tunnel Installations: Let There Be Light

04/10/2017

Making the most of natural light wasn’t the priority in the design of some homes. Particularly in older buildings, insulation was more important than light. 100 years ago, people cared more about keeping the cold out. However, with modern materials and techniques, you can have the best of both worlds. Skylights and sun tunnels allow light into the darker corners of your home without compromising your insulation.

Skylight or Sun Tunnel?

A skylight on a roofTraditionally, a skylight is a window in the roof of your house. A skylight can usually be opened to allow ventilation or to reduce humidity in steamy rooms. A sun tunnel is sometimes known as a tubular skylight. They are fixed units that direct the sunlight hitting the roof of your property through a reflective tube into the desired room.

Skylight and Sun Tunnel Installation

Our experienced roofing contractors can install a skylight or sun tunnel into any appropriate roof. We will ensure that the installation does no damage to the roof membrane. Your roof will be as weatherproof after installation as it was before. Your new installation will last for many years.

Environmentally Friendly Option

Using natural light to light your home during daylight hours has one big advantage: it’s free! It is also more environment-friendly because you won’t be using electricity to light up the darkest corners of your home. Light from the sun has been shown to have other benefits – it triggers the body’s production of Vitamin D and reduces depression. Exposure to sunlight may even lower blood pressure and improve the functioning of the grey matter in your brain!

Security Concerns

Modern skylights are as secure as any other window in your home. The toughened glass of our flat roof skylights is designed to withstand being walked or jumped on. A human literally cannot fit through a sun tunnel.
