Choosing Between a Flat Roof and a Pitched Roof

21/10/2016

A building must have a roof. However, if you are building an extension – or even your own Grand Design – the style of roof that you choose is very much up to you. There are all sorts of roofing materials to choose from but, even before you make that decision, there is one fundamental choice to consider. Do you want a flat roof or a pitched roof? Let’s take a look at what each have to offer.

The Flat Roof

Flat roofs are the usual choice for extensions to properties and for smaller outbuildings such as garages. Larger flat roofs tend to be seen on commercial buildings. Because they are quicker to install, they tend to be cheaper than pitched roofs. All of our flat roof installations are guaranteed for between 15 and 25 years, and we expect them to last in excess of 30 years.

The Pitched Roof

The main roof on most domestic properties will be a tiled pitched roof. A pitched roof is made up of two or more steeply sloping sides. The pitch is designed to carry away excess water, but it has the added bonus of creating extra storage or living space in the form of an attic. When we build or repair your pitched roof, we can improve the thermal performance of your roof by installing TLX gold insulating breather membrane. A pitched roof will likely complement the look of your neighbourhood.
