Check The Condition Of Your Flat Roof
13/11/2014
Before it gets too cold and unbearable outside, now is the perfect time to inspect your flat roof for any damages. With winter on the way there are sure to be more rainy days ahead so it is important to make sure that your roof is in the best condition possible to cope with the added strain the bad weather can bring.
Inspecting your roof yourself
If you have easy access to your roof you may want to inspect it for yourself. Be sure to do this only if you are comfortable with the situation – don’t unnecessarily put yourself at any risk. We have put together 4 of the top signs that your roof is in need of repair or replacement:
- Holes and leaks: The easiest problems to spot are holes and leaks. If you find one while you are inspecting your roof it is essential that you arrange to have your roof repaired or replaced before any further damage is caused to your home.
- Top coating damage: If you constantly hear a fluttering, blustery noise during windy conditions there is a chance that the top coating of your roof could be damaged. If the top layer is coming loose or looks worse for wear then the wind and rain could start to cause damage to the layers beneath it, leading to even more trouble down the road.
- Damaged vapour barrier: The vapour barrier is one of the most important components on a flat roof and prevents water from seeping into your home. To help it do its job efficiently the vapour barrier is fitted tightly to your roof. If yours is coming loose then it is highly likely that it has split or been damaged, making it very ineffective at doing its job.
- Disintegration: Everything deteriorates over time, especially during harsh, rainy conditions. As your roof bears the brunt of the bad British weather there is a chance that over time it can wear away which will obviously affect how well it performs. The older your roof, the more likely you will find this problem.
